The Effect of Thematic-Fantasy Play on the Comprehension/Spoken Vocabulary of E.S.L. Kindergarten Students : a practicum report presented to the faculty of the School of Education, Texas Wesleyan College, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts , November 1988, June 15, 2026

A practicum report examining whether thematic-fantasy play improves comprehension and spoken vocabulary among kindergarten students learning English as a Second Language (E.S.L.). The study involved 20 kindergarten students at Rankin Elementary School in Arlington, Texas, divided into control and experimental groups, with the latter engaging in dramatic activities related to story retelling. Results indicated a significant advantage in recall for students who participated in thematic-fantasy play. The report includes a literature review, methodology, results, conclusions, recommendations, and an extensive bibliography.
