Biography

Amanda Hawkins was born February 10, 1887 in Midlothian, Texas. She grew up in Midlothian and then moved to the Polytechnic Heights area of Fort Worth with her family so she could enroll at Polytechnic College. There she earned her Bachelor of Literature degree in 1905 and her Bachelor of Arts in 1907. After college she worked as a Y.W.C.A. secretary in New York City and Oklahoma City. In July 1920, Miss Hawkins married Reverend Eugene B. Hawk, a pastor in the Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Rev. Hawk preceded her in death in October 1963. Mrs. Hawk died at a hospital in Dallas, Texas on January 23, 1966 following a limb injury.
